"After more than twenty-one years, we have decided to close. Not for any bad reason." That was the note Maniac's taped to its door at 99 Seaboard Lane this summer. The note thanked the landlord, the staff and the customers. It said the owners wanted more time with family and friends "and to have new adventures, whatever they may be." Even the goodbye ran late. A broken fryer forced a temporary closure, so the final day moved from the end of July to Wednesday, August 5.
That note fits the pattern behind every change to Brentwood's daytime dining in 2026. Neither closure blamed the customers, and the opening on the way was planned for years. The three changes came from a corporate sale, a family's retirement and a chef's long-planned expansion. The locally owned cafés along Franklin Road have kept their posted hours through all of it.
The biscuit counter that a corporate sale took away
Maple Street Biscuit Company's Brentwood restaurant at Hill Center on Franklin Road had permanently closed by July 29. The cause was a transaction several layers above the restaurant. Cracker Barrel, which bought Maple Street in 2019, sold most of the brand to Biscuit Belly, LLC. That deal covers the Maple Street name and assets tied to 35 restaurants, as FranklinIs reported.
Biscuit Belly plans to convert some locations to its own brand over the next 18 to 24 months, Murfreesboro among them. The closed Brentwood and Nashville stores are not expected to be converted, and the restaurants left out of the sale are expected to close as Cracker Barrel exits the brand. So the Hill Center closure tells you more about one company's portfolio than about Brentwood's appetite for biscuits. As of early October, no local report names a new tenant for the space. Maniac's old spot on Seaboard Lane has no announced successor either.
The chef who says he waited years for this address
The arrival is the strongest sign that demand is still there. Big Bad Breakfast has announced a location at 330 Franklin Road in Brentwood Place. Its own Brentwood page lists the address as Suite 226-B and still says "Coming Soon!" Founder and CEO John Currence told WhatNow Nashville in August that permitting delays had slowed the project and that the restaurant was targeting a mid-October opening.
"We've had our eye on Brentwood for years and looked for the right opportunity. We feel like this is really an absolute diamond for us," Currence said.
There is one more step on the paperwork side. Williamson Source's weekly roundup of county business licenses, published today, lists Big Bad Breakfast as a full-service Brentwood restaurant with a license date of September 30, 2026. A license is not an opening day, and no official date had been posted at the time of writing. Mid-October is still a target.
When it opens, Brentwood gets a concept with a pedigree. Currence is a James Beard Award winner who started Big Bad Breakfast in Oxford, Mississippi, mixing his New Orleans roots with Southern comfort food. The menu leans on in-house cured bacon, skillet meals and biscuits made fresh daily. The bar side includes a classic Bloody Mary, a Mimosa and the Breakfast Dude, which mixes cold brew, cream, vodka, Kahlua and vanilla. Brentwood will be its fifth Middle Tennessee location, after Franklin, Spring Hill, Nashville and Murfreesboro.
Brentwood Place already has a morning tenant. Crema Coffee Roasters runs a café at Suite 904D of the same 330 Franklin Road center. Crema describes it as its first location outside Metro Nashville, with savory options suited to breakfast or lunch. With a sit-down Southern breakfast moving in, one shopping center will soon hold both a full breakfast menu and a specialty coffee bar.
The Franklin Road spots that stayed put
Here are the Franklin Road morning stops still open and posting hours on their own sites, in address order:
- The Perch, 117 Franklin Road. A local café serving specialty coffee, sweet and savory crepes, Belgian waffles and other brunch dishes.
- First Watch, Peartree Village, 210 Franklin Road. The national breakfast chain's Franklin Road location.
- Puffy Muffin, 229 Franklin Road. A family-owned bakery and restaurant serving breakfast, brunch and lunch, with bakery hours that run later than the dining room.
- Crema Coffee Roasters, 330 Franklin Road, Brentwood Place.
- Market Brew at The Brentwood Market, 925 Franklin Road.
A few morning stops sit off the corridor. The Well Coffeehouse is at 690 Old Hickory Boulevard, Suite 104. First Watch has a second Brentwood location at 710 Old Hickory Boulevard, Suite 307. Another Broken Egg Cafe serves breakfast, brunch and lunch at 4936 Thoroughbred Lane in Merchant's Walk. Mere Bulles at 5201 Maryland Way offers a Sunday brunch buffet, though its homepage does not list brunch hours.
The newest independent arrival opened before any of this year's shuffle. Silver Fox Coffee Lounge opened its first location on Music Row in April 2025, then expanded to CityPark at 7010 Executive Center Drive. The Brentwood café held a soft opening in February 2026 and a grand opening with a ribbon cutting on March 14. Its menu includes house-made sourdough and pastries.
The hours that actually shape a Brentwood morning
The hours differ more than the addresses do, and the table below shows how much. Hours come from each business's own website as of early October 2026.
| Spot | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Market Brew, 925 Franklin Rd | 6 a.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. Sat | 5 p.m. weekdays, 3 p.m. Sat |
| The Well, 690 Old Hickory Blvd | 6 a.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. weekends | 5 p.m. daily |
| Puffy Muffin, 229 Franklin Rd | 7 a.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. Sat, 10 a.m. Sun brunch | 2:30 p.m. weekdays and Sat, 2 p.m. Sun |
| Crema, 330 Franklin Rd | 7 a.m. daily | 6 p.m. Mon–Sat, 4 p.m. Sun |
| First Watch, Peartree Village and Old Hickory | 7 a.m. daily | 2:30 p.m. daily |

| Silver Fox, CityPark | 7 a.m. daily | 5 p.m. daily |
| The Perch, 117 Franklin Rd | 7:30 a.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. weekends | 2:30 p.m. weekdays, 2 p.m. weekends |
Two time windows stand out. Before 7 a.m., the only options on this list are Market Brew and The Well, both opening at 6 on weekdays. Market Brew's breakfast menu runs from 6 to 10 a.m., though its site doesn't say which days. After 2:30 p.m., every full-service breakfast room on the list has closed. The coffee bars keep going: The Well and Silver Fox until 5, and Crema until 6 Monday through Saturday. A late-afternoon coffee meeting in Brentwood happens at a counter, and a sit-down breakfast has to happen before mid-afternoon.
Big Bad Breakfast hasn't posted hours yet. Whatever schedule it announces will decide where it fits on this table. A brunch cocktail list hints at weekend late mornings, but the restaurant hasn't confirmed anything.
What the fall shuffle adds up to
Count the changes on Franklin Road and its side streets this year. One biscuit counter closed because of a sale decided at the corporate level. One tenders shop closed because its owners chose to retire after more than two decades and said so warmly. One coffee lounge opened in February at CityPark. One Southern breakfast concept is aiming for mid-October at Brentwood Place, after a founder who says he waited years for the right Brentwood site.
Meanwhile The Perch, Puffy Muffin, Market Brew, Crema and The Well are still posting full daily schedules on their own sites. The spots holding the corridor together are mostly locally owned, and on this list they cover the earliest openings and the latest closings.
At Sandra Hill, our view of Brentwood comes from living in Middle Tennessee since 1995, which includes a lot of mornings in these cafés.
